Delhi’s Air Quality Remains Poor; AQI Rises to 251
Delhi’s air quality continued to remain poor with an AQI of 251. Wazirpur recorded the highest reading, prompting health concerns among residents.
NEW DELHI: On November 1, 2023, Delhi’s air quality persisted in the ‘poor’ category, as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded a rise to 251 from 218 the previous day, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.
The ongoing pollution scenario remains concerning as the air quality deteriorates. The AQI at eight monitoring stations reached ‘very poor’ levels, signaling a significant health risk. Health experts recommend that individuals, especially those with respiratory issues, limit outdoor activities.
Wazirpur emerged as the most affected area, registering the highest AQI reading of 333, which falls into the ‘very poor’ category. This alarming figure underscores the challenges Delhi faces in mitigating air pollution.
Residents are advised to take preventive measures, like wearing masks outdoors and using air purifiers indoors. The increase in air pollution levels draws attention to the need for immediate action by government authorities to address the worsening air quality crisis.
Officials noted that the deteriorating air quality in Delhi during this time of year is typical, attributed to various factors including construction dust, vehicle emissions, and seasonal crop burning in surrounding regions.
The CPCB continues to monitor air quality levels across the city, providing real-time data through its Sameer app to keep residents informed. Local authorities are urged to launch targeted initiatives to improve air quality and reduce pollution sources.
As pollution levels rise during the winter months, health advisories from the authorities become crucial in safeguarding public health and well-being. Experts recommend staying indoors during peak pollution hours and ensuring that children and the elderly minimize their exposure to the outdoor environment.
